"every little hurts"

I went to Tesco today
I'm not sure why, the shoppers seem rude, the assistants robotic, the row upon row of ready-meals, laden with artificiality and containing little real food, alarms me...

and I can never make the trolley go in the same direction as my feet

I think that I go to Tesco when I need to feel punished
It is my equivalent of donning a hairshirt

I bought pet food in tins and treats and chewies to tempt the dogs away from the furniture
and vegetables, cheese, organic eggs, milk, noodles and salad cream
and that was It

I did browse the berries
£2 for a pack of redcurrants!
I should coco!
Note to self, plant some fruit bushes

I observed the oranges
waxy and hard
no way, Jose
Note to self, move to Seville

I thought I'd at least find a nice, juicy red apple
silly me!

The Robot swiped my purchases and I packed them into bags
and then, at the end, she looked at me expectantly
"Is that all?"
"Yes, that's all"

I knew that she was wondering...
Where are the pizzas, the lasagnes
Why hasn't she got a frozen pie, a plastic container of mashed potatoes...
Surely she's not going to eat all that raw stuff????

"If you've forgotten anything I'll get someone to fetch it..."
She trailed off
"Nope, that's it, that's my shopping, thank you"

The woman behind me was balancing biscuits, doughnuts, strange chicken concoctions and tins..
Next to me someone has just spent £162.35 and had not a single raw ingredient that I could see, and I looked very hard...

The Tesco Website offers the following helpful advice

5 top foods for stress-busting nutrients
- Nuts and seeds
- Colourful fruit and veg
- Fish
- Wholegrain breads and cereals
- Pulses

Indeed
Not a single ready-meal amongst them
I'd add another tip for stress-busting

Don't shop at Tesco

Somehow the hairshirt felt less scratchy as I wheeled my wayward trolley back to the car

All supermarkets are basically the same.....I use tesco as its nearest and right over the other side of town for sainsburys....a 20 mile round trip to home while tesco is only 12!! We don't have waitrose down here....nearest one about 35 miles away!
Our tesco is not too bad, plenty of local milk,.....tesco for all its sins supports dairy farmers better than the others although none are brilliant....see my blog for info on that one!
They have somerset mushrooms, west country spuds and caulis, local cheese, and local beer!
I never have and never would buy ready meals or ready anything... and we make all our own bread but supermarkets are there to stay....we just have to demand they stock good produce and boycott the cr#p!

We are off to Brittany tomorrow for a week....will give it your love and best wishes and send good happy vibes in your direction, Take care!

Ach, I know exactly what you mean about these huge supermarkets and what you see most shoppers buying there. If I were to cut out all the ares of the store that I never shop in, the store would be a tiny fraction of its size! A few items like cheese are just so much cheaper than elsewhere otherwise I'd never step in there. Good health to you and me!

I wonder They haven't started tracking our footsteps in order to learn our buying habits
Mine would be most revealing, especially those I leave as I make a dash for the door!

Oh J I would smuggle you in the trailer today but your family may notice your absence....However I will be going back in a few weeks for a weekend collecting wool on my own so if you are free.....

Know what you mean re Waitrose....they are a lot more ethical than the coop! there is a rumour that Waitrose have bought a site in a local town!
I once knew the senoir biscuit buyer for Waitrose....yes they really do exist!

Hi Val, at the risk of sounding self-pitying, which I am not honestly, the kids are busy with their lives and I doubt they would miss me for a wee while

and since I have no-one else in my life now...

merde! I promised myself no tears!

Yes, Waitrose are the best of the bunch and I love them dearly

I know, I need to get a life
I had one once...
